This topic proved difficult for me simply because I love all Christmas carols!! How do you possibly narrow it down to one?? While I was growing up I was always involved in choir and thoroughly enjoyed singing Christmas carols during the holidays. When I was little I made up my mind that I was going to teach myself to read music and play the piano. Every Christmas I would take great pleasure in playing every Christmas carol in every songbook I had, over and over again.
When pressed for a favorite, one song keeps coming to mind. It was the song that I sang to both my babies as I rocked them to sleep. It was the carol that the choir always sang by candlelight. If not my all time favorite, “Silent Night” has to right up there!! I loved how the choir perfectly blended their voices while singing this classic song. I loved the fact that this particular song fell in my voice range.
“Silent Night” embodies the true reason we celebrate Christmas and is full of perpetual hope. Following the deaths of my parents and grandparents, simply hearing this song brought tears to my eyes and brought me ever closer to G0d. It has brought me joy, sadness, and peace.
Even though I could also choose “O Holy Night”, “Rocking around the Christmas Tree”, and others as clear favorites, “Silent Night” is special because I know all the words by heart. It is the only carol I can play on the piano without sheet music. Since this particular challenge demands I name one all time favorite, “Silent Night” wins hands down. I guess after a little reflection, I found a favorite after all. That is all I have to say until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.
The girls over at Blogging for Fun have challenged me to write about what I love. Since I make a pretty constant practice of proclaiming my undying love for my husband and kids, I thought I would focus on some other stuff I love instead.
I love music! I love anything with a beat, and anything with a message that stirs my heart. When I was growing up I got into my head that I wanted to learn to play the piano, so I taught myself how to read music to play…well. I used to love and sit and play every single song in a songbook. The harder the piece the better. I also love anything with a beat that rocks or has a message that rocks my soul. I love to sing along at the top of my lungs while bopping to the beat. I also discovered a new passion playing the drums on the game Rock Band for Wii.
I love to crochet!! The harder the stitches, the more challenge, the more fun it is! That was something else I made up my mind I wanted to learn how to do. My mom bought me a book when I was young and I sat down and taught myself. There is nothing better than working on a project while watching a movie on a cold winter evening.
I love movies!!! I love to laugh, so I love comedies. The funnier, the better!! I have a vast collection of movies that continue to grow. If I love it, or it touches me, I have got to have it!!!
I love to read. My favorite series by far is theHarry Potter books by J. K. Rowling. I love the whole magical world of Hogwarts. I love the movies! I love the movie “Gone With the Wind”, the book of the same title, and the sequel. I love anything written by Danielle Steel, Debbie Macomber, and Nora Roberts. I have a whole slew of favorite authors, but those are the top ones that come to mind.
I am a big kid, and I love games. What began as a favorite past time with my mom and dad continues to this day with my own kids. I love to play cards, Lego games, and board games.
I love to cook! I love to make a recipe my own!! I have a collection of favorite recipes that I have perfected . The only downside of this love, is that I hate doing dishes. Got to take the good with the bad with that one.
I love to write. I love to work on my website from the posts to the design to the music that brings it to life. I love the whole creative process.
Although I love my dogs, I have loved catssince birth. I am fascinated with their big long bushy tails and love to entice them into singing a few bars for me. I love their “make me like you!” attitude which is so much like my own.
I am one of those nut jobs that love winter and the beauty of snow. I would rather freeze my a$$ off than roast to death. I love Christmas and the magic of a Christmas snow.
Last but certainly not least, I love to laugh! Just like the old dude in Mary Poppins, I would be dancing on the ceiling if it were possible literally laughing my a$$ off at the tiniest things until tears are streaming down my face and I am literally choking on myself. I love being silly, and it seems I get sillier with age. Mooning is definitely not out of the question. I love to proclaim that I am a few sandwiches short of a picnic or loony as a tune, because that is exactly what I am and proud of it. I tend to live life having more fun than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest just because life is to short not to. Until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a truckers wife.
“Well color me happy, there is a sofa in here for two!!” When I saw the BFF challenge for this week, that was the first thing that came to mind. The whole concept of appreciating the little things in life with an exuberance of a little kid jumping up and down clapping my hands in glee ! There is nothing better than laughing till my belly aches and tears are flowing down my face until I am choking on myself! I love bouncing on balloons till they bust or mooning someone shamelessly and running away laughing myself silly in my wake! Laughter makes my life sparkle with color and is a very important ingredient to life.
If it weren’t for my husband and children who I hold near and dear to my heart, even the reddest rose would seem as lackluster as a gray dingy gym sock that has visited the washing machine one to many times. The little things in life color my world with happiness! The best times happen when my husband is home. Most of the time, magic happens when we are together. This summer a typical weekend would be spent zooming around the neighborhood with my husband and kids on the golf cart, watching my family zooming around the yard on 4 wheelers squealing in delight, and spending time swimming in the pool. Those weekends were highlighted with barbecues where the whole family gathered around the grill together as whatever succulent meat happened to be on the menu sizzled to perfection. Our laughter rings through out the times we spend together. I can honestly say that there is nothing better than seeing that big purple semi truck backing into the driveway! The kids and I are always out by the road waving him in like a bunch of lunatics!
Whether listening to hard rock, rousing country, or the soothing classics, music colors my life in every emotion from happiness to sadness. I can’t imagine my life without music. I have loaded all my favorite tunes onto my phone and love to let it play non stop in the back ground as I go about my days. Like my husband and children, without music my life would be drained of color. It seems everything goes a lot better with music. I write better, clean faster, concentrate more, and the best perk is my mood is elevated a million times over just with the pounding feel good beats of my favorite tunes blasting in the background.
Since I have been young I have loved all the colors. I see favorites in G0d’s greatest creations: the flowers, the birds and butterflies that flutter through the sky, and the beauty of the bluest oceans waves crashing on lush beaches with the prettiest sunsets in the distance.
Without the love of my husband and children, the best of G0d’s creations, my menagerie of pets, and the music that drives the heartbeat of my life, everything in the world would be drab and grey and lifeless. There are so many blessings to be happy for! Home, health, family, pets, love, music, writing, gorgeous art, and nature! So color me happy!! I am so blessed to appreciate the people and things that make life worthwhile. I intend to keep living my life in full color!! Until next time when I give you another glimpse into the life of a trucker’s wife.
